Bushfire charity auction

Alone we can do so little.
Together we can do so much.

Who could possibly forget the catastrophic bushfires of 2019?

The cumulative effect of drought, trauma, loss of human and wild life, of homes and natural habitats had left me feeling helplessly and hopelessly overwhelmed and shaken.

I remember experiencing feelings of utter dismay, heartbreak and frustration. Dismay at seeing the anguish in people’s faces on television when they discovered they had lost everything. Utter heartbreak at the countless and frankly senseless loss of native wildlife. And the sense of powerlessness and frustration at feeling so far away from it all and wanting so badly to help in a meaningful way, yet not knowing how or where to begin.

I’m grateful I wasn’t alone in my feelings.

Social For Goodness was the brainchild of a fellow small business owner Jacqui of Rudie Nudie Designs as a way for Australia’s small business community and the wider community to come together, show our solidarity and strength in numbers and collectively do our bit to help those most affected in the bushfire states of New South Wales and Queensland. It was this collective sentiment and the power of Keller’s words that gave birth to Social For Goodness.

The Instagram charity auction saw a total of 110 small businesses generously donating their products with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Givit Australia via a GoFundMe fundraiser. We were honoured to be one amongst many, donating one of our limited edition prints and an art tea towel to the cause.

Together, Social For Goodness was ultimately able to raise over $12k worth of donations from its initial target of $5000, thanks to the generosity, kindness and support of so many people who truly know what it means to be Australian.
